What You Will Always Find on My Desk: 3 Things That Help Work from Home Productivity

This article was originally published on October 20, 2018.

“I know well that the greater and more beautiful the work is, the more terrible the storms that rage against it will be.” Saint Faustina

I hadn’t had a designated workspace since my college dorm. I started my business, Moscati Scrubs, a year ago, and for most of the year I worked from the floor. I joked with my husband that I was literally building a brand from the ground up! It was exciting to finally purchase a desk a few months ago and create a comforting and inspiring space where I could work.

One of my favorite parts about creating a workspace was organizing my desk. When my workspace is organized, I accomplish so much more. Here are three things that you can always find on my work desk – things that motivate me, allow me to work efficiently, and stay on task!

1. An organized planner

I was so excited when Blessed Is She released their mini academic liturgical planner this August. It includes feast days, inspirational quotes, and sections for goals, to-dos, and prayer intentions. I always keep my Blessed Is She planner open on the upper left corner of my desk so I can reference it quickly. At the beginning of the month, I fill in important dates, deadlines, appointments, exams, family birthdays, and travel dates. I believe that if you are going to have something with you for a year, it should be something you find beautiful! While Blessed Is She is my top pick, here are two other planners that I have used in the past and love: one from Rifle Paper Co. and another from Kate Spade.

2. A motivating image

This could be a picture of your family, a quote or Bible verse, or a photograph of your dream vacation spot. Place something on your desk that motivates you and keeps you on track as you work. For me this is an image of Saint Giuseppe Moscati, the man who inspired my business, Moscati Scrubs. My friend Emily sketched it for me and it has been a source of peace and has pushed me to persevere during tough workdays. When I am tired, overwhelmed, or in need of his intercession, I look at this image and offer up a prayer. This image reminds me why I am doing this all in the first place!

3. A notepad

I am a list-maker and love to have a notepad right next to my computer. I am always jotting down ideas, websites, to-dos and goals. Referencing my lists helps me stay organized and on-time with projects. Right now I am using this notepad from Small Things Great Love.

I would love to know, what do you keep on your desk?
