A Hopeful Lent: “Fanning the Flame” Even in the Dark
Pope Francis proclaimed 2025 a Jubilee year, writing:
We must fan the flame of hope that has been given us, and help everyone to gain new strength and certainty by looking to the future with an open spirit, a trusting heart and far-sighted vision. The forthcoming Jubilee can contribute greatly to restoring a climate of hope and trust as a prelude to the renewal and rebirth that we so urgently desire; that is why I have chosen as the motto of the Jubilee, Pilgrims of Hope.
As a theological virtue (Catechism of the Catholic Church 1812), hope is, indeed, a gift from God. But we can cultivate it with His help. How can we do so even during Lent, a time that is penitential and even sorrowful? How can we do so during times in our life when we grieve, stress, or suffer? How can we share that hope with the people in our lives, at work and elsewhere?
This Lent, Catholic Women in Business will be exploring these questions through our articles and conversations online and in person. Take this journey with us! We hope it will bless you.
